Benfield will finally reopen their doors to fans this weekend, with the final pre-season game ahead of the 2020/21 season, against Morpeth Town AFC.
Benfield have certainly had an impressive pre-season, going unbeaten in all five previous games, and racking up some impressive victories against Seaton Delaval, Heaton Stannington and Dunston. Stuart Elliott’s side have managed to score 12 goals over the last 5 games, only conceding 3 times.
This weekend they will face 2016 FA Vase Champions and 2019 Northern Premier League Division One East Champions Morpeth Town AFC, in one more testing pre-season game at Sam Smith’s Park.
The Highwaymen’s pre-season has consisted of games at Hebburn, Stockton, Ashington, Shildon and Consett, and they too have had a very promising pre-season. Morpeth also will go into Saturday’s tie unbeaten, racking up four wins, and a 2-2 draw against Hebburn Town. They have managed to score 13 goals, conceding 5 times.
A major test awaits for both sides this Saturday, with gates opening at Sam Smith’s Park at 1pm for a 3pm kick off. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, a maximum of 150 spectators will be allowed into the ground on Saturday, so it is advised that spectators get down to the ground as soon as they can after 1pm to avoid disappointment.
Ticket prices for Saturday’s fixture are £4 for adults, £2 for seniors and students, and children under 16 will be admitted free of charge. There will be safety precautions in place at Sam Smith’s Park, and we encourage fans to read our COVID-19 risk assessment and GDPR policy before coming to the game. These documents can be found on our website.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Sam Smith’s Park.
