As provided by our programme editor Jim Clark, below are the updated player profiles for the Newcastle Benfield FC squad for the 2020/21 season.

Stuart Elliott; Player Manager: Stu took the Lions to the Northern League Brookes Mileson Trophy final only to lose 4-3 on penalties.


Paul Brayson; Striker: Previous clubs include Newcastle United, Swansea City, Reading, Cardiff City, Cheltenham Town, York City, Northwich Victoria, Gateshead and Blyth Spartans. Legendary striker, who needs no introduction. 2014/2015 & 2017/2018 Northern League Player of the Season. Scored over 250 goals in his 8 seasons with Benfield. Sponsored by Craig Bell.


Amel Brkan; Promising right back who has played grassroots football all of his life, starting at Wallsend Boys Club, before joining Newcastle Elite Academy, and eventually being one of the first two signings from the NEA to Newcastle Benfield FC at the start of the season.

Jack Cooper; Midfield Front Man Striker: Former Ryton & North Shields player.


Laquan Esdaille; Centre back: Previous clubs are Oldham Athletic, Stalybridge Celtic, Radcliffe Borough, Thoi Lakatamia, Clitheroe and Bacup Borough. Initially joined in 2016/17 season and is now back for his second spell this season. Reached the FA Vase Quarter Final in his first spell at Benfield.


Kane Evans; Right back: Previous clubs are just Sunderland AFC, and he joined Benfield in the 2020/21 season, as one of the brand new additions to the squad. An exciting young prospect who has had a really bright start to his career, and has a lot to add to the Benfield squad in the 20/21 season along the back line.


Cyril Giraud; Attack: Mercurial French playmaker, blessed with astonishing ball control, superb passing ability and an eye for goal. A jewel of a player. Sponsored by Dave Dent Printers


Peter Glen-Ravenhill; Attack: Experienced front runner. Served Whitley Bay, North Shields and Team Northumbria with distinction. A valuable addition to the squad. Sponsored by John McNally.


Alfie Gordon; Keeper: Agile young shot stopper who has signed from junior football.


Andrew Grainger; Keeper: Long serving goalkeeper, Andrew joined the club following spells with Darlington, against whom he had a testimonial in July 2014 and Barry Town. Regarded throughout the League by team-mates and opponents as one of the best goalkeepers in the Northern League, Andrew is also the international goalkeeper for England at Beach football. Winner of the League’s Safe Hands trophy in 2009. Former wicketkeeper with Tynemouth CC. Sponsored by Trevor Atkins


Aiden Haley; Midfield: Commanding presence in the centre of the park. Former clubs include Dunston UTS and Whitley Bay.


Alex Nisbet; Defence Midfield Authoritative presence at the back; an enforcer in the middle. Signed from Ponteland, he was 2017/2018’s Player of the Year in his debut season. Sponsored by Ben Harris.


Reece Noble; Midfield: Attacking midfielder who can also play up top. Signed from Sunderland RCA. Sponsored by Dave Robson and Associates Property Management


James Novak; Left Back: Quality left back. Another to come from Morpeth Town. Outstanding in the first half of 2017/2018 until struck down by a debilitating back injury. Came back into the frame in late October 2018 and proved his worth. Sponsored by Newcastle benfield Juniors U17 San Siro (Jason Sowerby).


Matty Parker; Winger: Exciting young talent. Getting stronger by the week. Sponsored by M4orce Teamwear.


Abu Salim; New sining former West Allotment Abubaker signed for Allotment during the 2019 close-season after a spell with Heaton Stannington. He is a pacey forward with quick feet and glides past opponents with silky ease. Abu is also a cool finisher and had an impressive strike rate for Celtic, scoring 24 goals in his previous season at West Allotment.


Lewis Scorgie; Centre Half: Has played for North Shields, Hartlepool, Wallsend and Whitley Bay. Superb on the ball and very committed. Recently returned after 15 months out with a knee injury. Sponsored by Advance Installations limited


Ritchie Slaughter; Midfield: Experienced, talented, creative midfielder. A reliable performer. Sponsored by Ben/Darren Davidson BD Roofing.


Jake Turnbull; Winger: Lightning fast right winger; previously with Ashington and Heaton Stannington.


Mark Turnbull; Right Back /Centre Half: Local lad who joined the club from local football and is embarking on his eleventh season at the club. Has impressed with his commitment and his solid displays at right back, which led him to be named Young Player of the Year in 2011. Club captain. Played most of last season in the centre of defence and never put a foot wrong. Sponsored by Peter Miller.
