The Lions will take on Seaham Red Star in the clubs’ first competitive game of the 2020/21 season tomorrow evening. The match tomorrow is in the Emirates FA Cup, and is the extra-preliminary round that will decide which club can continue to the preliminary round of the FA Cup.
Benfield have had a more than impressive pre-season, picking up four wins and a draw from six very competitive friendlies against Seaton Delaval, AFC Killingworth, West Allotment Celtic, Heaton Stannington, Dunston UTS and Morpeth Town AFC. Thirteen goals have been scored by Benfield during those six games, with six of them being scored by Dan O’Reilly, three by Paul Brayson, two by Cyril Giraud and one from Lewis Scorgie and Richie Slaughter.
Benfield have also managed a very solid defensive performance, conceding only five times in those six games. Stuart Elliott’s side therefore go into tomorrow’s game with confidence and with form.
The visitors today also come in good form with four wins from five pre-season friendlies against Jarrow, Ryton and Crawcrook, Leam Rangers, West End FC and Boldon CA FC. Seaham managed to score sixteen goals across these five fixtures, conceding ten times.
Winners of the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup will receive £1,125 in prize money from the FA’s Prize Fund, with the losers receiving £375. Moreover, the winning club will progress to the preliminary round of the competition, where 320 teams will compete to make it to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.
