Percy Main, facing Northern league opposition for the third time in a week, gave an encouraging display at Newcastle Benfield, but for a 6-minute spell just after the break, when the home side scored three times without reply.
The Main had got off to the best of starts only 2 minutes in, as Ifaaz Chowdhury signed a couple of days before the game, played a superb defence splitting ball for Luke Molloy to run onto and the centre forward made no mistake.
Molloy added his and his team's second 7 minutes later as he directed Fin Brady's low right wing corner past the dive of Alfie Gordon in the Benfield goal, to put Percy main 2-0 ahead.
Main custodian Reece Monaghan, distinguished himself with a series of impressive saves throughout the game, but he was powerless to prevent Benfield's evergreen centre forward Paul Brayson from pulling a goal back for the home side midway through the half and defender Lewis Scorgie restored parity on 33 minutes with a header from a free kick from Reece Noble.
2-2 at the break and both sides were putting the effort in on a fairly warm day, but Benfield upped the ante at the start of the second half and effectively put the game out of reach of the valiant Main side, with that 3-goal salvo the first was a Kane Evans corner finished by Reece Noble, followed by a solo effort from Paul Bryson after jinking past 2 defenders and the keeper, with Reece Noble taking putting a corner kick onto Lewis Scorgie’s head securing his second goal.
A final goal on 85 minutes by an unknown player took the final score line to 6-2 sending the home fans home satisfied after an entertaining game. If anyone does know who scored this goal please, please let us know. 😊
