If you want to see goals, Sam Smith’s Park is the place to be Newcastle Benfield are the team to see and tonight’s game against Billingham Town did not disappoint. Within two minutes of the kick off Benfield were leading 1-0, a corner to Benfield was headed out by Billingham’s Oliver Conn to find Connor Walker who struck a low left foot shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Only two minutes later and the visitors were level, a mistake by Aiden Healey saw him pass the ball to Billingham’s Daniel Boyle who gratefully placed the ball past the advancing Benfield keeper Andrew Grainger to make the score 1-1.

When people were still coming into the ground another goal in the sixth minute was scored this time to the home side, newly returned from injury Cyril Giroud slotted a precise thru ball into the path of Abu Salim who confidently rounded Billingham’s keeper Michael Roxburgh before sliding the ball into an empty net making it 2-1 to Newcastle Benfield.

The crowd were getting restless as twelve minutes had elapsed without any more goals but Benfield came close in the eighteenth minute, a fine move down the left wing by Abu Salim saw his cross find Peter Glen-Ravenhill, although his strong shot was on target Billingham’s keeper Michael Roxburgh was up to the task making a fine save for a corner.

The game was flowing from end to end and in the twentieth minute again Billingham Keeper Michael Roxburgh denied the home team another goal when a three man move involving a header from Glen-Ravenhill to Aiden Haley who saw his cross find Abu Salim but his effort was again well save by the Billingham keeper.

Billingham then got an equalising goal in the twenty-second minute, a strong run ended when following a good attacking move down the Benfield right wing a low cross into the box destined for Daniel Boyle saw him fouled by Cameron Gascoigne, from the resulting penalty it was Boyle who took it sending Benfield keeper Andrew Grainger the wrong way making the score 2-2.

Newcastle Benfield then had the perfect chance to go ahead before the halftime whistle, with them being awarded a penalty when Cameron Gascoigne was fouled, up stepped Reece Noble who saw his penalty fly high over the crossbar as if he was trying a rugby conversation therefore it was all square 2-2 then the whistle went for halftime.

Seven minutes of the second half had elapsed when a Billingham move down the Benfield left flank saw a dangerous cross from Ryan Gooch into the Benfield goal mouth eventually cleared to safety after a scramble inside the six-yard box. It was then the turn of the home team a minute later to come close to scoring, after a slow three man move the ball fell to Cameron Gascoigne who hit a well struck effort only to see Billingham keeper Michael Roxborough up to the task finger tipping the ball around the post for a corner.

It was then Benfield’s turn on the hour mark who came close to getting another goal, it came after a move down the Billingham left found Cyril Giroud who produced a fine quick turn and shot from 20 yards which just cleared the Billingham cross bar.

Billingham then came close to then getting a third goal and were on top looking the better team at this moment and looking the most likely team to get the next goal. A strong run by Billingham goal scorer Daniel Boyle saw him denied by two desperate blocks by the Benfield defenders and against the run of play almost conceded a goal when substitute Archie Leonard had a free header at goal easily saved by the Billingham keeper.

Later on the seventy-first minute Newcastle Benfield did get a third goal which proved to be the winner, it came when a free kick on the right wing taken by Reece Noble was dropped by Billingham keeper Michael Roxborough under no real pressure with ball slowly clearing the goal line making the score 3-2 to Newcastle Benfield which was the final score.
